✊🏼 Workshop on Poetry as Protest and Resistance
Do you feel angry, anxious, powerless about the climate crisis, genocide, kleptocracy, the resurgence of the far right across the globe? In this one hour online workshop we invite you to create short poetic statements that speak to power. Together, we will devise metaphorical soundbites of resistance and protest. Learn to express your emotions in ways that expose injustice, inequality, hypocrisy that cause the reader to reflect on the state of the world at this critical moment. As a form of writing, poetry is sharp, succinct and powerful. Like Banksy’s iconic images, our aim is to create poetic messages that are instantly understood.
For example:
He laughs and dances
Dreams of money mountains
Pulls the president’s strings
As babies die of hypothermia.
At the conclusion of the workshop, we will discuss how to disseminate your poems in impactful ways.

Remember the Revolution, Remember Omar Aziz
Saturday 16 February hold the date, online
As the future of Syria hangs in the balance, it’s important to remember the Syrian revolution and to remember Omar Aziz, the Syrian anarchist murdered by the Assad regime and one of the most influential organizers of the decentralized network of free towns and cities, involving hundreds of thousands of people holding out for over five years despite the onslaught of Assad’s brutal army and the Islamic fundamentalists of ISIL. Many participants in this uprising were killed, many fled, and many were able to survive inside Syria. As some of the exiles return, as prisoners are released, and as the dead are remembered, it’s vital for people all over the world to support them. Peter Gelderloos
More details to come but we will read aloud about the way that communities can organise outside of state structures: support one another and keep one another as safe as possible.
This is a chance to learn about other forms of organising, especially those that happen away from the West, despite the West. Drop me a note if you want to help organise this event.
